Product Analysis: Sin City Trailer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0M8qjlAT8s
1: The intended audience is clearly adults, mainly males within the "18-30 year old" category. This is due to the high amounts of violence, sexualization and stuff show in the trailer.
2: Male teenagers aged between 12-18 would also be interested thanks to the explicit content shown, but are clearly not a part of the allowed legal viewing age for the film. Older viewer may also be a target of the film, as they would have been old enough to read the "Sin City" comics from which it was based on.
3: The clear genres of the film is Action and Drama, thanks to the amount of violence shown as well as some of the other content used such as the ramped tension of the trailer and use of wording such a "Uneasy truce".
4: As well as the tone used (Dark city, very seedy looking, corruption shown from both sides) and the look of the film (Lots of black and white with red being the only other colour allowed), the audio contributes as well, with its dark soundtrack and language used in the film, being very course and gritty. People talk very informally, with several of them talking throughout the scenes, as though it were to the audience.
5: The content shows several of the stories that are portrayed within the film, including the war between two illegal professions and a disgraced policeman going vigilante on a case. The music is very dark, with loud drums and a epic sweep making it sound very dramatic. The title of the film is red and very smeared, a if to look like blood, adding to the action thematic as well as adding to the "Adult" themes that are in the film.
6: It is unclear as to who the exact lead is, due to the various actors around and their interaction. As such, it could be that there is no clear "Lead" to speak of, just various leads given thanks to the stories. Actors themselves are varied, with some being very well known (Bruce Willis, Haley Berry) while others are complete unknowns. It is also unclear as to what they symbolize, but it is clear what some of their characters are, as either Policemen, Criminals or just various unknowns. It helps to symbolize that all of the individuals are people, not one great person and several smaller others, just everyday people in their everyday lives.
7: The language used is complex, however it is mainly informal with a great deal of viciousness within heir words. Almost all of the accents have an american twang, thus letting the viewer know that it is firmly set in America. It helps to symbolize the place as being almost run into the ground, as well as at each others throats. Its also the tone of the voice that sets people apart, with the calmer voices usually being the more key characters, if not the more moral of characters.
8: The setting of the place is a very urbanized and developed area of america, as shown by the high-rise buildings as well as the slummy locations on offer as well. This, as well as the black and white setting, gives the trailer a very "Film Noir" feel, in between the ultra-violence.
9: The trailer is prominently night, but weather varies, changing from clear to somewhat overcast to fully raining from time to time, much like real weather. It helps further help the viewer remember that this all takes place in a normal city on earth, tightening the tension and horror.
10: The music is very orchestral and dark, and uses a lot of bass and guitar in it creation. It adds towards everything that has already need established in the trailer itself; its dark, its foreboding, its corrupt and its rotting everywhere.
11: A lot of the text used is in a sort of Comic font, once again alluding to its comic origins.
12: As stated before, there isn't really a main character to speak of, but there are a great deal of characters shown that have a personality. They fit the genre in their own ways, some being good, many of them being various degrees of bad. At best, its safe to assume that Bruce Willis plays the hero, given the way he acts and is treated by the corrupt in the trailer, but everyone else is an unknown.
13: The symolism of Bruce Willis's costume seems to evoke a kind ofwestern sherriffigure, given the way the overcoat flaps about and how he holds his pistol.
14: It is BBFC 16
15: There is a high degree of violence given within the trailer, as well as some showing of suggestive images.
16: It seems to be a mixture of a film noir and semi-explitation film, given the black and white setting withredbeig the only colour alowed (Outside of Yellow), high amounts of violence and corruption and seeming disregard for any normal convention.
PAYDAY 2 Gameplay Trailer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3zoMHLKYsc
1: The intended audience of this trailer seems to be fans of the first game, as well as people who are interested in the games new revamped stealth aspects. This is mainly due to how the heist is set up, mainly being much more subdued than normal, which in turn makes the trailer more exciting.
2: Fans of shooters may also see the appeal in the game, as well as people who enjoy heist movies like "Heat" and "Point Break".
3: It plays out much like an Action film, as far as genre goes, and the game itself looks like a Co-Op Heisting game. This is evident from the use of guns, the music used and the last seconds of the game which show the place coming under attack.
4: There is also the way the characters act, killing the guards without remorse, as well as the way they respond to the civilians, incapacitating the one who tries to run.
5: It shows the four PAYDAY members (Dallas, Hoxton, Wolf and Chains) stealthy entering a bank and starting to talk care of things, such as breaking into security and eliminating guards. The music here is very calm and, while tense, is more soft than how it usually is, reflecting the stealth aspect. As a civilian notices one of the team members, the music ramps up a little, but is quickly silenced by the sorting of the situation. At the end, both the action and music quickly ramp up as the title is shown.
6: The lead "Actors"of the trailer and game are Dallas, Hoxton, Wolf and Chains. In game, they are each chosen for their unique set of skills and they each serve a different aspect of the heist (Dallas controls the civilians, Hoxton sneaks about, Wolf is the technician and Chains is the enforcer with the heavy weapons)
7: The language used in the trailer is very rare, but it does seem to be a mixture of formal and casual, with it being spoken fast but with no form of shorthand and slang used. The language used helps people in realising that these guys are professionals at work, an that they take their craft seriously.
8: The location for the trailer is the Harvest & Trustee bank, so it mostly just tends to associate itself with banking mostly, as well as heist films and money.
9: The weather conditions are clear and sunny, meaning that this is nothing abnormal, just a regular bank heist for these gentlemen.
10: The music is very synthetic, and helps to draw in the stealth aspect of the heist with its slowness and soft tone, as well as at the end when the action ramps up suddenly, where it becomes very fast paced and sharp.
11: The only text used is at the end when the title comes up, but it fits rather well as it is the PAYDAY font, so people who have played the games before recognise it for the heist that has just occurred.
12: The main characters are well trained at their jobs, having done many heists before in the previous games, and are therefore able to come over every eventuality. There isn't really much of an archetype shown within the trailer, but as I already discussed with the lead actors, they each have different skills that help them get the job done.
13: The costume is just a three piece suit. All it really shows is that they dress formally and that they follow a cliche when it comes to heist films about the robbers sometimes wearing suits to their job.
14: The product has not yet been rated, but I would estimate it to be a PEGI 15
15: Content used in this trailer for the rating includes activity of a criminal nature, some strong violence, swearing and references to drugs, though some of that isn't actually shown on the trailer.
16: The style of the film follows many of the great heist films, with somewhat muted colours, bright lighting so that you can see whats going on and a very tense atmosphere surrounding the entire event.
PAYDAY: The Heist
PAYDAY: The Heist is a Co-Op FPS Heist-em-up where in you take part in various creative jobs with three other guys. It folows many conventions of a standard Co-Op FPS, such as making enemies difficult to control on your own, having objectives that need several people to acomplish and having a better game by surviving so you can help your guys by reviving them. However, it also sircumvets stuff by having it so that the game can be accomplishable, if highly difficult, on your own, as well as have objectives work faster if people help out (Like pouring two cans of thermite instead of one). It is also unique for a heisting game, as it mostly does away with stealth in return for great bombastc action. As far as basic film genre goes, it plays out much like a Action film.
The three act structure for the game is also unique, as there is no overarching story-line for the game itself, only for the heists. For example, in Diamond Heist, the First Act takes place in a high rise office building which you have to sneak around, the twist coming if you get caught or when you enter the codes to the vault, where upon it splits in two, where the codes failing leading to Act Two, and the codes working going straight to Act Three. In Act Two the team rushes around trying to complete objectivesto try adgetthe vault open, trading hostages lives in return for the correct code to get in, wit the twist being when they get the code to get into the vault and it opens. In Act Three, the team is inside the vault, stealing the jewels and escaping.
There are a lot of good points within this game, such as the co-operation angle from the heists, to the unique enemies that enter the game to make each heist hell. Players can use a unique mix and match perk system to allow for many classes, so some players can bring extra health and give the team more ammo to use, to someone being able to interact with objects faster and can lay down a heath kit for people. However, it also has its weak points as well, such as a limited number of maps, a lot of ideas taken from other shooters, and not a lot of variation in the heists themselves, even when they're randomly storied.
The reasons I like it basically come down to "Its something different". There's never really been a heist game where avoiding guards and alarms wasn't fully necessary, the enemies are challenging but not impossible to kill on your own, the heists are short and not too protracted and overall, its a fun shooter that just reminds people of great heist films like "Heat", "Point Break" and the first ten minutes of "The Dark Knight".
